Johnston Native, Band Member in Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Gives Iowa Shout-out Onstage

Nora Kirkpatrick, who grew up in Johnston, is an accordion player for popular band Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, who performed in Des Moines June 5.

Johnston native and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros band member Nora Kirkpatrick returned to Iowa Wednesday night for the group's Nitefall on the River concert series appearance.

Kirkpatrick plays the accordion, keyboard and percussion for the band, which is most well know for their hit "Home" and is currently in the middle of an international tour.

The Des Moines concert kicked off with Kirkpatrick chastising her band mates for asking about potatoes - this is Iowa, not Idaho! An announcement that she grew up in Johnston got a big cheer from the crowd.

Later in the show, Kirkpatrick shared a story about helping a farmer deliver a cow while growing up in Iowa.

If Kirkpatrick looks familiar - and you don't recognize her from her Iowa roots or her accordion credentials - it may be because she recently appeared on The Office as a farm girl who catches the eye of Dwight (Rainn Wilson).
