Johnston Boy Wins Ugliest Ice Cream Contest, Plus Results and Photos from Iowa State Fair

Tyler Davis of Johnston won First Place Overall in the Ugliest Ice Cream competition judged Sunday at the 2013 Iowa State Fair.

The contest asked entrants to use anything edible and a half gallon of vanilla ice cream, to make the ugliest ice cream treat. Judges critiqued the entries on overall ugliness as well as creativity. The winning "ugliest ice cream" photos will remain on display in the Elwell Family Food Center for the duration of the Fair.

Sophia Ridgway of Johnston won first place in her age divisions during the My Most Creative C&H Sugar Cookie contest judged Sunday at the 2013 Iowa State Fair.

Clarissa Ridgway of Johnston took third. An honorable mention was awarded to Joseph Ridgway of Johnston.

Entries were judged on creativity, taste and appearance.

Joseph Ridgway of Johnston took third place in the Kids' Favorite Party Snacks contest judged Saturday at the 2013 Iowa State Fair.

The contest was open to chefs ages 8 to 16. Entrants created party snacks that they would like to serve at their birthday parties. The entries were judged on taste and appearance.

Rose Ridgway of Johnston placed second in the Helen Gannon Memorial Baking Competition.

The competition was held in honor of Helen Gannon, a food entrant for over 40 years. Gannon taught her 14 children how to cook and bake. Competitors entered their finest gingersnap cookies to be judged on taste, appearance and texture.
