Iowa State Fair Exhibit and Contest Winners From Johnston: Aug. 21

From fabric creations to the best dipping sauce ever, Johnton residents collected accolades at the Iowa State Fair last week.

Here's a second installment of our state fair results.

Fabric and Threads Clothing Construction

• Mary Lou Wildrick placed second for coat or jacket (outerwear, lined)
• Amanda Arthur-Struss placed fourth in historic reproduction clothing or costume

Junior and Intermediate Floriculture

• Clarissa Ridgway placed fourth in the Buzz-Buzz, second in bluebird, third in horton all in the ages 8 to 12 category
• Joseph Ridgway placed first in roses, fourth in bluebird, second in horton in ages 7 and under category
• Sophia Ridgway fourth in bluebird and fourth for horton for intermediate group

Corn and Soybean Crafts

• Natalie Ridgway placed fifth for corn creations natural color

Kids' Ice Cream Desert Contest

• Kyle McGuire took first place in the Kids' Ice Cream Desert Contest. Competitors were asked to create a dessert using at least two flavors of Blue Bunny Ice Cream. They were judged on appearance, taste and creativity.

Cooking with Cookies' Sauces and Seasonings

• Jim Woodsmall won first place and a $100 savings bond for his entry in the Cooking with Cookies' Sauces and Seasonings. Entries were judged on taste, creativity and appearance.

Land O Lakes Sensational Sour Cream Creations

• Jim Woodsmall placed third and received $50 for his entry in the competition. Entries were judged on taste, appearance and creativity.

Cooking with Honey Competition

• Shawn McGuire took the top prize in the Quick Breads division. Shawn also took third in youth entries for breads and rolls.

Best Dipping Sauce Ever

• Phoelisa McGuire took third in the competition
