There is Crying in Baseball: Iowa Brothers Have Tearful Reunion at Championship Game

Johnston baseball player Trevor McCauley was on cloud nine after helping Johnston Dragons claim the Iowa state baseball title this weekend. What happened next might have brought him to cloud 10.

One Johnston baseball player was on cloud nine after helping Johnston claim the Iowa state baseball title this weekend.

What happened next might have brought him to cloud 10.

Five years ago, Trevor McCauley watched big brother Ryan win the Iowa baseball state title for Johnston. But, as the younger McCauley, now starting first baseman and captain, helped Johnston to the 4-A state titled against Sioux City East on Saturday, the older McCauley wasn't expected to make it. Ryan is a grad student in New York.

Trevor really looks up to his older brother, mom Lori said, and it was heartbreaking he couldn't make it.

But after the final out was recorded and the Johnston Dragons celebrated a 9-3 win in the middle of the field at Principal Park in Des Moines, Trevor McCauley got a tap on the shoulder and a surprise that brought tears of joy.

There, giving him a bear hug was older brother Ryan.

"You made it. Oh, my God, you made it. I love you brother," an emotional Trevor cried.

Ryan scored a last-minute flight and with the help of his family set up this heartwarming surprise, arriving from the airport and sneaking into the stadium with two innings left, just in time to celebrate.

"This is going to be the best. It might be better than winning it in 08," Ryan McCauley told KCCI.
