Report: 15 Johnston School Employees Violated State Election Laws

The ethics board issued reprimands and $100 civil penalties to a teacher and secretary. A total of 15 employees were admonished or reprimanded.

Fifteen Johnston school district employees inappropriately used their official email accounts to advocate for candidates during the 2011 school board election, a state board said.

The Des Moines Register reported that on Aug. 8 the Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board found the employees violated state election laws.

The school board will take up the issue in front of the district's policy committee.

Duthcher had also filed complaints against four 2011 board candidates, Greg Dockum, Mike Farrell, Deb Henry and Jill Morrill, who were all elected, but those complaints have now been dismissed.
