Johnston Schools Named a 'Top Iowa Workplace'

The district came in at number 14 among large employers, trailing its 2012 finish at number 10.

Press release from Johnston Community School District

For the second year, Johnston Community School District has been named a “Top Iowa Workplace” by a Workplace Dynamics survey. The district came in at number 14 among large employers, trailing its 2012 finish at number 10.

To qualify for the poll, companies must have a certain percentage of their employees complete an online survey measuring three elements of a workplace: the health of the organization, including direction, execution, and connection; the employee’s job, including their work, manager, and pay/benefits; and overall engagement. Out of the nearly 800 JCSD employees given the survey, 658 responded.

“Once again, we’re proud to have placed among Iowa’s best workplaces,” said Superintendent Clay Guthmiller. “I think this reflects the healthy workplace environment we strive to provide for our employees. Their work is tremendously important to our students, families, and community.”

The national survey was conducted through Workplace Dynamics at no cost to the district. Individuals were given a unique code to complete the survey and their responses were anonymous. Upon completion, district administrators were able to download the quantitative results. They will use these findings to moderate district climate and improve any areas of concern.

“We take these results seriously,” said Guthmiller. “It’s important for every employee to have a voice in the workplace. Without our valued employees, we would not be the district we are today. Our ranking speaks to the hard work we put in to creating a good work environment and the work that still needs to be done to make sure all employees are satisfied.”

The Des Moines Register annually publishes the results for workplaces in the state of Iowa. Full results of the Iowa report can be found here.
