Johnston Dollars for Scholars Becomes Dragon Scholarship Fund

Going forward, the activities of the former JDSF will be conducted as the Dragon Scholarship Fund, now a division of the Johnston Community School Foundation.

Press release from Johnston Schools:

Johnston Dollars for Scholars has opted to discontinue the organization’s affiliation with its national parent organization, Scholarship America.

This decision was prompted by changes at Scholarship America that the JDFS board of directors believes would have resulted in loss of local control over the scholarship selection process and a large increase in fees for the Johnston Dollars for Scholars organization.

To successfully continue its mission of providing scholarships to all Johnston High School seniors who complete the application process, JDSF initiated and has now completed a merger with the Johnston Community School Foundation.  Going forward, the activities of the former JDSF will be conducted as the Dragon Scholarship Fund, now a division of the Johnston Community School Foundation.

“We are excited to partner with the new Dragon Scholarship Fund,” stated Josh Willis, President of Johnston Community Foundation Board.  “Our organization is dedicated  to enhancing our children’s educational experience through educator grants and the Dragon Scholarship Fund provides scholarships.  Working as a team, we will be able to coordinate our efforts  and enhance opportunities for Johnston students at all levels.”

The former JDFS board of directors will continue their roles in the new Dragon Scholarship Fund.  The Dragon Scholarship Fund (formerly Johnston Dollars for Scholars), was established in 1988.  The Dragon Scholarship Fund has raised and awarded over $1 million to over 3,400 Johnston High School seniors over the past 25 years.  The Dragon Scholarship Fund is already working to raise needed funds for the Class of 2014 and looks forward to the continued generous support of the community.
