Johnston Woman Involved in Car Vs. Semi Crash Along Urbandale Interstate

A Johnston woman whose car collied with a semi-truck Saturday night is in the hospital, Urbandale police said Sunday. Authorities just released the names of those involved in the accident.

Urbandale Police on Sunday released the names of the two drivers involved in a car vs. semi-truck accident.

Public Information Officer Randy Peterson said that at about 9 p.m. Saturday, Urbandale Police and Fire crews were called to a car vs. semi-trailer crash under the Douglas Avenue overpass on Interstate 80/35 eastbound.

The driver of the car had serious injuries and was taken by Urbandale Emergency Medical Services to Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Peterson said.

The crash remains under investigation.

Police said the car was driven by Tara Leitzinger, 30, of Johnston, while the driver of the semi was Henry Hassell ll, 46, of Deptford, N.J.

According to WHO-TV, Leitzinger's car was pinned under the semi, smashing the entire front end of the vehicle.

Peterson told the TV station that authorities are still investigating the specifics that led up to the accident, but confirmed the car hit the semi from behind.

One eastbound lane of traffic was closed until 1 a.m. Sunday as crews cleaned up the area, WHO said.
