Perry reportedly hit the woman in the stomach and head and tried to strangled her, said Johnston Police Lt. Lynn Aswegan. When police arrived, the bedroom was in disarray and the woman had severe injuries, which included bruising consistent with strangulation, Aswegan told the newspaper.

Perry told police a lamp fell on the 65-year-old woman.
