Being Healthy in Johnston

See why it's so easy to be healthy in Johnston.

In Johnston, it's impossible to not be healthy. There are miles of biking and walking trails tucked behind each new home. There are playgrounds, fields, and plenty of willing participants walking, running and biking their way through the growing neighborhoods.

This is partly why my fiancé and I wanted to stay in the Johnston/Grimes area when we were looking for our first home. To me, the choice to buy our home was no question since there was a trail right behind it, full of folks on bikes, Rollerblades or with dogs on leashes. Even more helpful is that the loop on the trail and around our neighborhood is exactly a half-mile. Perfect for measuring that grueling mile I ran last night!

Oh, and everything I mentioned above is free. No gym memberships, treadmills, nor diet bars.

Living in this city has been helpful in my journey to lose weight and start running again. I've lost 20 pounds so far, and hope to run four miles by November. I hope you'll follow my journey here, and maybe start one of your own? Like I said, it’s easy to do once you use your resources and rid yourself of excuses.

What do you do in Johnston to stay active and healthy?
