Johnston School Closing, Road Conditions: Winter Storm Q

Winter Storm Q is expected to hit central Iowa later this afternoon.

Winter Storm Q is expected to hit the metro later today than initially thought.

But that doesn't mean schools and other organizations aren't taking precautions.

Johnston Community Schools will be dismissing two hours early on Thursday. KTC is in operation; parents are encouraged to pick up children as soon as possible. All evening activities have been cancelled.

Des Moines Christian School announced they will be dismissing classes two hours early Thursday - no p.m. pre-kindergarten.

The Johnston Boys Bowling team will now bowl on Feb. 22 at 11 a.m. at Plaza Lanes for the state tournament.

Beaver Creek Elementary has moved the second and third grade vocal concert to Thursday, Feb. 28.

Previously, the Johnston Chamber of Commerce postponed the Annual Dinner to Feb. 28.

KCCI forecasters are now estimating the snow storm will start closer to 3 or 4 p.m. in central Iowa.

The Johnston Public Works Department crews are preparing for the snows arrival.

Plowing won't begin until enough snow is on the streets to move, but crews have pretreated all main streets, the Des Moines Register Reported.
