Weird Iowa: Mother's Day Brawl; Stranger Danger; Reward Offered for Vandals; WWII and WWI Artifacts Stolen from Museum

Iowans have a reputation for being nice, even shy, modest. Some of our news oddities this week involve the opposite — Iowans allegedly brawling as families or groups of friends.

Nothing tops off a night at the bar like a piping hot pizza. But careful whose slice you grab. Cedar Falls police had to break up a fight among three men that caused . The cause of the fight: who took a slice of pizza.

Another oddity from Cedar Falls police was of antique firearms, bayonets and clothes from the World War I and War II eras. The artifacts are valued at $13,100.

Police said former employee David Lynn Arnold, 58, was suspected in the theft after co-workers allegedly observed him mishandling property at the Cedar Falls Historical Society museum.

Meanwhile, in Iowa City a University of Iowa student and his parents were all arrested after a bar fight on Mother's Day, according to authorities. Matthew Ward, 21, of Winfield, IL, his mother, Jeane Ward, and his father, Scott Ward, were reportedly involved in a fight at Donnelly's Pub.

Police say Matthew was shoving patrons, and his parents jumped into the fray.  

Urbandale police are searching for the culprit who of Urbandale City Manager A.J. Johnson's house.

While Johnson and his wife were at work Wednesday, someone ran a garden hose into their basement and turned the water on. The damage has been estimated at $20,000. A reward is being offered for tips that lead to a conviction in the case.

Waukee parents were warned to talk to their kids about stranger danger after a Tuesday. Police praised the girls for riding their bikes home, running inside and telling one of the girls' mothers about the eerie encounter.

In Ames, residents are riled up about the case of Tuesday while it was roaming the neighborhood.

Ron Carson posted a photo of his dead cat to Facebook Wednesday hoping that someone would come forward with information. The photograph shows a small orange blow dart sticking out of the 8-year-old cat's chest.

And, in eastern Iowa the saga of a former Cedar Rapids Washington High School  continues. This week Heather Adams, 41, was released from jail after posting a $6,500 bond; she will be in Linn County District Court again May 31.

Police allege they caught Adams and an 18-year-old student having sex in a car on May 6. Adams has been charged with sexual exploitation of a minor.
