Public invited to review DART's proposed transit service enhancements


The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority will hold public meetings during the week of April 14 concerning the plans to enhance transit service beginning this August, according to a news release from the transit authority.

                Meetings will be held at the following dates and times:

    • Monday, April 14: 5:30-6:30 p.m., Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 8301 Aurora Avenue, Urbandale;

  • Tuesday, April 15: Noon-1 p.m., DART Central Station, 620 Cherry Street, Des Moines;

  • Tuesday, April 15: 5-6 p.m., Urbandale Public Library, 3520 86th Street, Urbandale;

  • Thursday, April 17: 2-3 p.m., DART Central Station, 620 Cherry Street, Des Moines;

  • Thursday, April 17: 5-6 p.m., Ankeny City Hall, 410 W. First Street, Ankeny;

  •  

                    At these meetings, riders and the public can review and comment about the proposed changes to transit service. The proposed changes include:

    • Additional service on Route 3, which serves West Des Moines’ Valley West Mall via University Avenue;

    • Additional service on Route 16, which serves Merle Hay Mall via Douglas Avenue;

    • Additional service on Express Route 92, which connects Waukee, Clive and Urbandale with downtown Des Moines via Hickman Road and Interstate-235;

    • Additional service on Express Route 93, which connects Johnston and Urbandale with downtown Des Moines via NW 86th Street and Interstate-235;

    • Additional service on Express Route 98, which connects Ankeny with downtown Des Moines via Interstates-35 and 235;

  • A restructuring of Flex Route which services Urbandale and Windsor Heights.

     

                    Free language, visual and hearing services are available at meetings upon request. Transportation services are also available. Members of the public should call DART at 515-283-8100 with as much notice as possible.

                    The service changes are part of the DART Forward 2035 Plan, a plan for expanding and improving transit service in the Des Moines area.

                    DART is also conducting a survey regarding the proposed changes. The survey will be available at any of the public meetings or online at www.ridedart.com, beginning April 14.
